Stoelting™ Visorb (PGA) Synthetic Absorbable Sutures
Visorb™ is a coated, braided, synthetic absorbable surgical suture, composed of Polyglycolic Acid (PGA) and is available both dyed and undyed.
Supplier: Stoelting™ 50496
Description
- When dyed, only FDA-approved color additives are used
- Undyed suture is milk white in color
- Coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate
- Excellent knot security and handling
- Predictable absorption profile
- Indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in ophthalmic procedures, but not for use in cardiovascular and neurological procedures.
- Due to rapid loss of tensile strength, this suture should not be used where extended approximation of tissue under stress is required or where wound support beyond 7 days is required. PGA is not suitable for cardiovascular or neurological surgical procedures
- Subcutaneous tissue implantation studies in rats indicate Visorb suture approximately retains 65% of the original tensile strength at 2 weeks post implantation
- Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength without appreciable loss of mass. Absorption of Visorb sutures is essentially complete between 60 and 90 days.
