Styrene is used in the preparation of polystyrene, which finds application in rigid foodservice containers, automobile body panels, wind turbine parts, boats, compact disc (CD) cases, envelope windows and many other products. Other uses include in refrigerator liners, in medical devices and in small household appliances. It is used as a precursor for the preparation of styrene-butadiene rubber, styrene-butadiene latex, styrene-isoprene-styrene (SIS), styrene-divinylbenzene (S-DVB) and styrene-acrylonitrile resin (SAN) which are used in rubber, plastic, insulation, fiberglass, pipes, automobile and boat parts, food containers and carpet backing.
