  • Made up of repeated structural domains including EGF-like repeats, fibronectin type III repeats, and region homologous to fibrinogen
  • Binds to several cell-surface receptors and mediates cell-substrate adhesion
  • Frequently referred to as anti-adhesion molecule
  • Binding of tenascin to certain receptors inhibits cell spreading
  • Blocks stabilization of adhesion that results from cell preading in vitro assays
