BD BBL™ Vacutainer™ Anaerobic Specimen Collector
The only media-free device for anaerobic specimen collection available.
Supplier: BD 236500
Description
Media-free specimen collector helps to minimize sample dilution which may occur in media-based products and eliminates the potential for non-viables that can be seen in some transport media. Comfortable to use, it keeps anaerobic bacteria viable for up to 72 hours. The device offers a built-in oxygen-elimination system that is activated by depressing the plunger and includes a reliable color-change indicator to ensure that anaerobiasis has been achieved.
- Sterile collector with swab provides a method to protect anaerobic bacteria from exposure to toxic amounts of oxygen during the time from specimen collection to inoculation of suitable media
- The system may also be used for liquid specimens collected with a needle and syringe
- Although primarily designed for the collection of specimens suspected of containing anaerobic organisms, aerobic organisms will survive in this system
- Particularly suited for instances where volumes are small or dilution of specimens by a transport medium is to be avoided
- Provides a moist, anaerobic atmosphere
- Although prolonged storage of any specimen is not recommended, provides 72 hours (or longer) survival of anaerobes
- Sterile collectors are packaged in peel-apart envelopes perfect for operating room use
